Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

I have had this message about 6 times and I click Yes but I still get the prompt

"Buddy list synchronisation issue in <email address hidden> (MSN)
<email address hidden> is on the local list inside the group "Individuals" but not on the server list. Do you want this buddy to be added? NO YES"

I have clicked YES several times but the pop us still comes.

I have the same problem. I don't know if it's just with one of my accounts on MSN or with both of them, but my task bar fills up with pop ups asking me the question. Then some contacts appear without name, just their MSN address. It happens every time I start Pidgin.

I'm using Pidgin 2.4.1 on Ubuntu 8.04.

If you need more details or some logs, please let me know.

I had the same problem and after much fooling around I found on my system it was caused by the evolution integration plugin.....how I solved the problem

1) delete the ~/.purple folder (after backing up the log subfolder to keep all my old recorded conversations

2) restart pidgin, setting it back up the way I like, without evolution integration

and then closing pidgin and copying the log subfolder back into ~/.purple

then start the program again....no problems here now

I assume the buddy list sync problem had to do with old msn address' being saved in evolution

The symptoms described above started happening for me after reinstalling Ubuntu. I created a new user account (using a different username than my previous one) and copied my home folder from my old machine. I ran the following to try to sync the ownership and permissions, but I suspect I missed something:

$ cd /home/userOld
$ sudo cp -r * userNew/
$ sudo chown -R userNew userNew/
$ sudo chown -R userNew userNew/.[a-zA-Z1-9_]*
$ sudo chgrp -R userNew userNew/
$ sudo chgrp -R userNew userNew/.[a-zA-Z1-9_]*

I made a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10 and I don't have this issue with Pidgin.
