Bug Description

Hi, it seems there's a bug with the Network Manager GUI where I can't import an .ovpn file. However, when I run `nmcli connection import type openvpn file Jacky.ovpn`, it is able to import the VPN connection successfully.

There is an existing VPN with the exact same content but different server IP address. I wonder if that is related to the issue?

EDIT: I deleted the existing VPN and it's still the same so maybe not.

I have attached screenshot that shows the problem.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release: 20.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center
network-manager-openvpn-gnome:
  Installed: 1.8.12-1
  Candidate: 1.8.12-1
  Version table:
 *** 1.8.12-1 500
        500 http://sg.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen
I can click on Add when importing the OpenVPN profile.

4) What happened instead
The Add button is greyed out and I can't click it to import the OpenVPN profile.

Thank you for your bug report, is tht specific to a ovpn import or do you get the same issue if you enter the same details manually? Could you check if changing the gateway or adding a password makes a difference on the UI?
Also could you try if nm-connection-editor has the same issue?

Hi Sebastien,

Yes, it is specific to the import function. If I enter details manually, it seems to work. Changing gateway and adding password doesn't seem to help.

nm-connection-editor doesn't have this problem.

Ah, it seems having a route line in the .ovpn file is the thing that caused it. I have to remove the route in the UI then the Add button becomes green.

To be more specific, it seems the route line in the .ovpn file causes the Network Manager UI to add the route without a gateway and that's why the Add button is greyed out.

Thanks, that does sound like bug #1810660 then, marking as duplicate
