Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-51-server

cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=6.06
DISTRIB_CODENAME=dapper
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 6.06.2 LTS"

When booting the kernel and initrd from the linux-image-2.6.15-51-server package, a run-time linker error occurs for vgchange as libncurses.so.5 cannot be found within initrd. Thus, booting will fail if the root file system resides on an LVM volume.

In fact, libncurses.so.5 is missing from the /lib directory within initrd.img-2.6.15-51-server.
I verified that libncurses.so.5 exists within initrd.img-2.6.15-29-server.

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this linux-source-2.6.15 kernel bug to the new "linux" package. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Also, if you would be interested in testing the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, it is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks!

The problem disappeared after upgrading to linux-image-2.6.15-52-server, although I noticed that the initrd has been generated by the mkinitramfs script, which has not been modified.
