By any chance is "Mouse Keys" enabled?

To check, go to the "Settings" application and look under the "Universal Access" tab. In that tab there is a "Mouse Keys" option under "Pointing & Clicking". If this is enabled, please disable it and see if that restores use of your numeric keypad.
