Bug Description

The switching of a playing youtube video to fullscreen mode and also from fullscreen mode to normal mode lags.

Ubuntu version: 19:10
Chromium version: 80.0.3987.163 (Official Build) snap (64-bit)

Steps to reproduce
1. Launch Chromium and open Youtube.
2. Select/search for a video and play.
3. Switch the playing video to full-screen mode and back to normal view.

When playing a video using chromium the switch to full-screen mode and back is expected to be smooth but instead, the switching is laggy.

Thanks for the report Tony. Can you confirm that it's only switching in and out of fullscreen mode that's laggy, playback is otherwise smooth?

Could you please run the following command in a terminal to attach additional information to the bug report:

Updated Chromium snap to Version 81.0.4044.92 (Official Build) snap (64-bit) recently but the switching a youtube video to full-screen and back is still laggy but playback is still smooth.

Are you in an X11 or Wayland session?

Do you use fractional scaling for high DPI ?

comment#4 In X11 session and not using any dpi scaling because my laptop's screen does not require scaling.

Thanks for the additional info. Could you maybe test the same thing with Google Chrome (from https://www.google.com/chrome/) and report whether the same thing happens?

Could you grab and attach a video to demonstrate the issue?

Thanks for the screencast. I think I see what you mean. I feared it was the video playback that was lagging, but it's just the fullscreen transition itself. I can confirm the problem here, although it's slightly faster on my machine. That said, firefox seems to suffer from the same problem here.
