I don't know whether ubuntu was uploading crash-reports or not.

For all crashes in /var/crash I found a "...1000.uploaded" file.

Sorry you're running into problems with apport-collect...

Please try this:

  apport-cli -p nvidia-driver-440 -u 1871169

and if that didn't work then try:

  ubuntu-bug nvidia-driver-440 --save=here

and attach the file 'here' to this bug.

Thanks.

Does the system work at scale 100%? I am wondering if this is bug 1870758.

Also, you seem to have quite a few OS modifications ([origin: unknown]) in https://launchpadlibrarian.net/473536084/Dependencies.txt though I am not sure that's a problem here...

Does "[origin: unknown]" packages come from 'focal-proposed' (via developer options)?!

Those Xorg logs seem to all show open source drivers in use and never the proprietary Nvidia driver that this bug is about.

Please reinstall it, reproduce the bug, and then attach fresh log files.

Also in case there is a crash somewhere please follow these instructions:

---

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
    ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself.

3) sudo reboot now
4) login -> black screen
5) open terminal, copy requested files
6) sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
7) sudo apt autoremove
8) sudo reboot now
9) with nouveau again i have ui to send you the copied files

I tried again to collect the xorg logs.
To force new log files i did "rm .local/share/xorg/*" before booting with nvidia.

after reboot i did not find any files in ".local/share/xorg" !!
nevertheless i found xorg logs in "/var/log"

so i will attach these files now.

Thanks. Indeed those new logs show the Nvidia driver version 440 in use and do not seem to report any problems with it...

Next please:

1. Run:

   gsettings list-recursively > settings.txt

and attach the resulting file here.

2. Follow all the steps in comment #20.

Actually your monitors.xml in comment #14 suggests bug 1869750. Please try:

1. Log out of all graphical sessions.

2. Ctrl+Alt+F4 and log into a text console.

3. Edit ~/.config/monitors.xml and change:

   <scale>2</scale>

   to

   <scale>1</scale>

4. Ctrl+Alt+F1 and log in again.
