Bug Description

Binary package hint: konqueror-kde4

To reproduce:
- Open a webpage
- Middle-click the tab
- Observe the error-dialog stating: "Protocol not supported"

Note: this only happens if either the clipboard content is no URL, or if it is empty.

Expected behaviour is that an error message does appear, to explain that the clipboard is empty, so one knows why the middle click isn't working. Maybe even check whether the item in the clipboard is a URL at all, and output an appropriate error message if it isn't.

Middle-click on the tab does not open the URL in the clipboard here, but produces the error-message I mentioned above in the bug-report.

It produces an error message when you don't have a URL in the clipboard, but copy a URL and middle-click and it'll open the URL

Ah, your first message "Middle-click opens the URL in the clipboard" was diffuse, as it could be understood like the URL of the tab would be opened in the clipboard, whatever that was supposed to mean.
Now I see that you meant that the URL in the clipboard would be opened in the tab, and you're right, that's what happened.

So, the expected behavior of this bug should be changed from:
"Expected behavior is that the tab is closed"
to
"Expected behavior is that an error-message does not appear when the clipboard is empty"

I'll add the closing of the tab as a separate wish.

Harald Sitter, please don't change the description of the bug/wish to something I don't stand for.

Besides, I don't think the removal of the "protocol not supported"-message is a wish, but a bug. Someone please change it back to a bug.

This message shouldn't be removed, it is just misleading.

The error appears when either no valid URL, or no entry at all is in the clipboard. Therefore it shouldn't be removed, but changed to something that explains why exactly using the 'load website from clipboard' feature didn't work.

Means: it is a usability issue, but not exactly a bug, since the error message is technical right..... a normal string, for example, is not a support protocol -> restoring expected behaviour.

Maybe someone could push this upstream?

Now you've changed the text again to something I don't agree with.
Either change it back or remove my name from this bug-report.

Even though I don't agree completely with the description, I guess it's okay as it stands.
I'll let time heal this one. ;)

Hello there,

Kubuntu currently does not have the manpower necessary to implement this feature as a distribution, so we are closing this report. Worry not, though, because your wish item is still being tracked by KDE at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157753 . Once KDE implements this feature, we will include it in the Kubuntu release which contains the KDE version the feature was implemented in.

Thanks for understanding, and have a nice day.

Glad to see the status changed from "wishlist" and "won't fix" to the more sensible "Medium" importance and then "Fix Released".
