Bug Description

Hardware: Lenovo P73 with NVIDEA RTX-5000 QMax

20.04 Daily Build install.

On using the USB drive for a new install the screen is corrupt. This can be worked around by:
1. Waiting for Focal Fossa to give the sound showing the splash screen.
2. Closing the screen so it goes into sleep mode.
3. Open the screen and hit the power button to wake the system.
4. Wait a second or two and screen loads correctly and the rest of the install works beautifully.

Hello and thanks for filing this bug report. This report has been filed against the init-system-helpers package, but according to the bug description it does not seem to be the correct package.

As the problem is related to the Desktop installer I'm reassigning the report to the casper package.

affects: init-system-helpers (Ubuntu) → casper (Ubuntu)

The installation media uses the open source driver "nouveau" for nVidia cards, and recent GPUs are not always well supported. It is recommended to boot in "safe graphics" mode, then select "Install 3rd party drivers" during installation to install latest nVidia proprietary drivers for your card.

To boot in "safe graphics" mode, if you're booting with UEFI, select an entry with "(safe graphics)" from the boot menu. If you're booting in legacy mode, press any key when the purple screen with the small keyboard appears to display the boot menu, the n select an entry with "safe grpahics".

I hope this helps.
