Bug Description

Hi,

When deploying with juju in environments where there is no DHCP we are unable to do so without some bespoke DHCP solution.

It would be nice is juju had something out of the box that could assign DHCP to the newly deployed machines.

Cheers,

Peter

To provide some more background on this, the example deployment we're looking at now is a VMWare provider. When that provider is asked for a machine a machine is provided which uses DHCP to acquire it's address, however there is no DHCP in this environment on these subnets.

Is there some way that's intended to be handled a deployment like this with the VMWare provider?
If not, can the VMWare provider ask for a 'bare metal' machine w/ PXE turned on but no image provided so that MAAS could be used for DHCP/DNS/Images.

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure I understand about getting 'bare metal' machines from VMWare.

The current solution for situations where there is no DHCP would be to ask VMWare for machines with static IP addresses outside of Juju and use the manual provider to deploy.

Juju is unlikely to grow a DHCP server.
