Bug Description

mouse in virtualbox works and a standard usb mouse too. This mouse Easter times t7 "gamingmouse " worked in ubuntu trusty thar 14.04 up to 19.10 eoan.

Once i use 20.04 focal fossa this device doesn`t work. It gets initialized fine but the cursor does not let me move down. Only right and up on real pc hardware. If i do plug it in as a usb device in virtualbox the mouse pointer gets stuck to its position. Is it do to some changes in libinput, kernel, xserver-xorg udev or what?

Output of lsb_release -rd on system the bug exists

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1864520/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Dear crichton bot the problem is finding the exact package. However to help it sorted i will file it against xserver-xorg-input-libinput. As it seems the closest package at the moment to me.

Using a newer or older mainline kernel does not fix the bug.

Mouse does not work right on gpm too.
Tommorow will upload the xorg.log here.

Ubuntu Kernel Bot (ubuntu-kernel-bot) wrote : Missing required logs.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. While running an Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline or third-party kernel) please enter the following command in a terminal window:

apport-collect 1864520

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

A normal office usb mouse as the HAMA AM-5400 works.

Just want to inform that the T7 eastern tech sinowealth mouse not working. I know this isn`t a real gaming mouse and its cheap but it worked just fine on all systems i used before.

Attached the installed package list.
Do use the grml live script to boot live system using the main system ssd .This does not interfere with the running system.

Now attached a different mouse named LM-STARR- ONE wired gaming again it does not work. And a pci usb port extension card also does not solve it.

Mainboard is asus prime b350.

In ubuntu 19.10 it does even with newest kernel.

Also the same problem exists when opening links2 in framebuffer mode so it is not related to xorg.

On Focal, you may install evemu-tools, and use `sudo evemu-record /dev/input/eventX` to dump raw input events. In your case X=5:

[ 2.888727] input: SINOWEALTH Game Mouse as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.3/0000:01:00.0/usb4/4-6/4-6:1.0/input/input5

Then try to move your mouse and check if the readings make sense to you.

You can also install Eoan's kernel directly in a Focal system to see if it's really a regression in kernel. You'll at least need:

 * https://packages.ubuntu.com/eoan-updates/linux-modules-extra-5.3.0-40-generic
