Bug Description

When trying to launch marble (version 0.4.3-1build1; Kubuntu 7.10), the program will not start.
Launching it from konsole, I have:

marble: error while loading shared libraries: libgps.so.15: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Have I some dependency broken? It is strange that I couldn't find anything in the Kubuntu/Ubuntu forums.

Thanks,

Antonio

I could observe the same behaviour. I tried do run the application in Konsole and received the following message:

"marble: error while loading shared libraries: libgps.so.15: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

So, I typed the following command:

"sudo ln -s libgps.so.16.0.0 libgps.so.15"

which solved the problem. I believe that, when Marble was packed, it was compiled against the wrong version of the library.

Thanks for the suggestion, however I typed the same command as you did, but still have the same error message. Do you have any thought?

Actually you have to type: "ln -s /usr/lib/libgps.so.16 /usr/lib/libgps.so.15" (Obviously, first make sure you have libgps16 installed).

It will work, this is not a very clean solution though...

This bug could be solved by upgrading marble to new versions - 0.5.x, see bug #189675 for more info

Gusty is no longer supported, and this shouldn't be an issue in more recent versions of Kubuntu.
