Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Xorg expected to start at 1024x768 85 Hz, and Xorg.log reports what this refresh rate choosed,
but actually I have 1024x768 60 Hz (in monitor OSD and noticeable at once because of CRT).

I cannot fix refresh rate immediately with xrandr --rate 85, this have no effect. For success I have to switch to another rate and then to 85 Hz.

And after any change of videomode (e.g. launching fullscreen app with resolution another than desktop
resolution, switching to vt) refresh rate resets to 60 Hz but still reported by utilities as 85 Hz

Updating xorg from standard repositories has no effect

P.S. Problem do not appear in 6.06 Dapper Drake (and Windows XP too)

Radeon 8500 LE (R200 chip), 15" CRT Compal m557, driver radeon
Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon, xorg 1:7.2-5ubuntu13, xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.195-1ubuntu2

Thanks for including all these files. This is an odd issue... not sure how to troubleshoot it. However, it sounds like a driver-specific issue so filing against -ati.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. In the development cycle for Intrepid there have been some vast improvements in the open source ati video driver and we could use your help testing them. Could you please download the latest Alpha CD image of Intrepid and test this particular bug just using the Live CD? You can find the latest image at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Your testing can help make Ubuntu and the open source ati driver even better! Thanks in advance.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
