plasma-desktop disappears after boot

Took updates when notified in tray and rebooted.
after login, desktop loads, startup apps load, then desktop goes black.
Yakuake loads on startup and is available.
Graphical programs and apps are available when launched via terminal.

I noticed the desktop was crashing as slack launched.
I removed slack and rebooted to the same issue.

Checked updates via terminal, took more updates.
rebooted to same issue.

used ubuntu-bug plasma-desktop to report bug.

Screen tearing prevents me from booting into rescue.

This bug is very old, if it is still an issue please update the bug with information from a supported release.

Also I don't have a clue what Kubuntu-FoxxBoxx Edition is? Where does one get that? They may ship with incompatible software.
