alsamixer doesn't save settings

If i start alsamixer and make FrontMic volume down to zero - on next startup FrontMic is on maximum.

yes - for me it is. running ubuntu 8.10
i realized that when trying to gt audio in Skype running. whatever i tried, skype wouldn't work. today i simply left the alsa mixer window open and got audio on skype - yeah. but after closing the mixer, it went away. so i got to set the mixer new every time now :(
btw, system updated today, upgradet some days ago

well, it saves some of the settings. afaic:

complete first chart: is saved
second chart: the volume is saved, but automatically my micros get blocked everytime i re-start
third chart: micro stays ticked, mix getting unticked automatically
