Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

I've installed some (e.g. default) kdm theme. When I move the mouse up to the screen border the kdm theme "slides" i.e. Login & Password & other fields move in the opposite direction. If some theme has its buttons (system menu, ...) at the bottom of the theme they will be hidden (will slide down beyond reach) if I moved mouse up to the upper screen border and a bit up.
Today i've seen it on my desktop: all controls(K button, clock...) were larger than my screen. If I logoff and logon then it disappears. I've seen it for the first time.

Using Kubuntu 7.10

I have the same issue. Please bear with me, the issue is quite hard todescribe.
I use a resolution of 1024x786. Kdm chooses a higher resolution (1400x1050 or something) for the login screen.
My screen (1024x786) can be moved around the larger screen by moving the
mouse over the edges of the screen.

This is fine as in a normal startup my screen is centered at the middle of the login screen.
In the K menu, Switch user > Start New Session is also fine.

Logging out, however, my screen is in the top left corner of the login screen. The centre of the login screen (face browser, user and password fields) appear in the bottom right hand corner of my 1024x786 screen. It is possible to log in, but the menu (sessions, shutdown) cannot be read.

To solve this, some setting that makes the screen centered on startup and Start New Session needs to also be set to Log Out. I didn't notice this issue until I logged out, so this would be an acceptable solution.

Interesting development - Kubuntu logged in, with the same problem in KDE itself.
Krandr gave me only three choices - one was 1400x1050, which was set. Also, there were only two refresh rate frequency options. Attempting to rectify the problem, I started to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and found that all of the screen size options are there.

Restarting the X server, the problem has disappeared, with a normal resolution screen and all of the options that are listed in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Seems to be to do with KDE's screen size settings settings, which can affect kdm's login screen.

Resolutions wrong in Kcontrol, affects kdm and kde screen sizes.
