The bug is easy to reproduce. Connect an external HDD, make sure it is mounted, then right click its icon in Caja's left panel and select "Safely remove". Ten seconds later Caja will close,and apport will pop its usual window. There are .crash files in /var/crash, and I'll add that info, as soon as I figure out how. Meanwhile, here is dmesg:

The report is quite big, and shows lots of gibberish, so don't just click it. Download the file and run <apport-cli -c _usr_bin_caja.1000.crash>.

It looks like the same bug had been fixed in Dec 2018 https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues/1046. Ubuntu-Mate 18.04 is apparently still broken.
