Bug Description

Not sure where to report this, but this is where to reproduce, at least:

to reproduce
1) click on triangle at top right hand corner of screen to get menu
2) click on settings icon
3) click on language and region
4) click on +
5) click on ...
6) click on other
7) click on chinese
8) click on add

9) you should now have a 'chinese' input source. click on that
10) click on keyboard icon
this shows just a plain qwerty keyboard
alternatively
click on the input language option at the top of the screen
select chinese (zh)
start typing on an input field somewhere
result: qwerty, not chinese input.

what should happen
the chinese (zh) input should actually generate chinese characters. or something

Thank you for your bug report. What ibus packages do you have installed?
$ dpkg -l | grep ibus
Can you start 'gnome-language-selector' and select chinese support there, does it install enough to fix the issue?

Indeed, "Chinese" is just an alias to the "English (US)" keyboard layout and not an IBus input method.

To input Chinese:

* Install a Chinese input method, e.g. ibus-libpinyin
* Log out and log in again
* Add "Chinese (Intelligent Pinyin)" in Region & Language
  -> Input Sources
* Select "Chinese (Intelligent Pinyin)" 北京
