Bug Description

I have Asus UX580 laptop with intel and nvidia 1050 video cards under Ubuntu 19.10.
For some reason dual monitor setup with external monitor via HDMI only works if I switch to Nvidia only. If I select Intel GPU or "on-demand" in Nvidia server settings HDMI out is not working at all - xrandr shows HDMI out disconnected.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

This might be related to the fact that some HDMI ports are only connected to the Nvidia GPU and others only connected to Intel. That's normal, but might not be the only factor here.

apport-collect sent.

Just FYI, under Windows on same laptop I can switch to Intel only, and still use my HDMI monitor.

I'm not sure Windows is telling you the full truth there. Even if you tell it to prefer the Intel GPU it can't get around the fact that on most hybrid laptops if there's only one HDMI port then it will be physically wired to the secondary GPU, not Intel. Even if the Intel GPU was doing the work Nvidia would usually be handling the port itself.

attached xorg.log.

Thanks for the explanation.
However I do think that since both Windows 10 and Ubuntu use same Nvidia driver, and Windows can handle HDMI with Intel GPU only, then Ubuntu should be able to do the same.
