Bug Description

Hi,

Since recently, I can't import a VPN connection in NetworkManager and store my credentials.
NetworkManager will systematically forget the password, despite a log entry confirming that the operation was a success:

nov. 07 22:26:52 xxxx NetworkManager[1518]: <info> [1573162012.8680] audit: op="connection-update" uuid="3f985155-4e20-4351-88d7-14d5909a2d03" name="at-01.protonvpn.com.udp" args="vpn.secrets" pid=6379 uid=1000 result="success"

Please look at the video attached.

Please fix.

Thank you for your bug report. Could you add your journalctl log from around the time of the issue?

Hi Sebastien,

The only line that pops up when I click apply is the one I already pasted before:

nov. 12 00:40:00 xxxx NetworkManager[1529]: <info> [1573515600.3387] audit: op="connection-update" uuid="45154b5c-bed9-4904-a090-7d2e0303e27e" name="at-01.protonvpn.com.udp" args="vpn.secrets" pid=23095 uid=1000 result="success"

There is no other relevant information in journalctl in my opnion.

I could send you a log if you want, but I don't know how to NOT make it publicly available on this Launchpad report.

Thanks/

I would like to add that if you choose to store the password for all users, then it works, the password is stored by NetworkManager.

However, the bug is important because it affects the default option selected for anyone willing to use a VPN connection: store password for the current user.

Any Ubuntu user who is trying to use a VPN connection will probably decide to give up because of NetworkManager unability to store the password, despite what the GUI says.

The description didn't mention that you are unchecking the 'for all users' option (which is default?), so it's only an issue in that case?

Hi Sebastien,

I'm not unchecking any option, there is a default selected option for the password field which is "remember this password for this user only".

And with this option, NetworkManager doesn't remember the password.

With "remember the password for all users" option, NetworkManager works fine, but that's not what I want.

(I hope the issue is more clear now)
