Bug Description

The version of abcde (2.8.1, released in January 2017) shipping with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS has deprecated support for (at least, but probably not limited to) MusicBrainz.

This makes the application essentially unusable as the metadata of every CD has to be typed in manually.

Please provide backports of the 2.9.x version (available on 18.10 and 19.04) which should have fixed this issue.

Just manually download abcde 2.9.2 from Cosmic archives, needed libwebservice-musicbrainz-perl_1.0.4-2_all.deb from the same repo. After satisfying dependencies, both installed fine and now MusicBrainz works flawlessly again.

IMHO, the packages can be safely (and easily) backported.

I can confirm that 2.9.3 from Disco archives works fine as well on 18.04 (after satisfying dependencies), restoring MusicBrainz functionality.

Please, backport!

First posting by newbie. I can confirm that installation of 2.9.2 from Cosmic onto 18.04 does work by following procedure at https://makandracards.com/makandra/47558-how-to-install-packages-from-newer-ubuntu-releases. I couldn't figure out how to manually download packages per iGadget but that gave me enough confidence to at least pursue an different solution.
