Bug Description

it starts, recognizes the Printer/Scanner, even the empty paper feed, starts scanning, very slowly, but doesn't end correctly but says something like communication error with scanner.

Message of hp-doctor:

warning: Printer is not HPLIP installed. Printers must use the hp: or hpfax: CUPS backend for HP-Devices.

Instead of heaving installed the printer with HP-device-manager.

I am confirming that scanning is sometimes (but not always strange enough) is extremely slow (using Simplescan) on my Color Laserjet Pro MFP M281fdw. I previously reported this issue here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1738612
Because I am using a fully up-to-date Fedora 30 distribution.

Another thing that I noticed is that scan-image lists the printer/scanner twice:

$ scanimage --list-devices
device `hpaio:/net/HP_ColorLaserJet_MFP_M278-M281?ip=192.168.178.16' is a Hewlett-Packard HP_ColorLaserJet_MFP_M278-M281 all-in-one
device `hpaio:/net/colorlaserjet_mfp_m278-m281?ip=192.168.178.16&queue=false' is a Hewlett-Packard colorlaserjet_mfp_m278-m281 all-in-one
device `hpaio:/net/officejet_4650_series?ip=192.168.178.12&queue=false' is a Hewlett-Packard officejet_4650_series all-in-one

Note that the officejet_4650_series is actually another printer/scanner that I have.

Some tests:

$ scanimage -v -p -d hpaio:/net/HP_ColorLaserJet_MFP_M278-M281?ip=192.168.178.16 > test_scan
scanimage: sane_start: Error during device I/O
[jan@nyx ~]$ scanimage -v -p -d hpaio:/net/colorlaserjet_mfp_m278-m281?ip=192.168.178.16&queue=false > test_scan
[1] 30880
[jan@nyx ~]$ scanimage: open of device hpaio:/net/colorlaserjet_mfp_m278-m281?ip=192.168.178.16 failed: Error during device I/O

[1]+ Exit 1 scanimage -v -p -d hpaio:/net/colorlaserjet_mfp_m278-m281?ip=192.168.178.16
