DVB subtitles not showing if audio language is not English

Binary package hint: kaffeine

The subtitles in channels broadcasted by YLE (Finnish national broadcasting company) do not work if audio language is other than English. If language is English, the subtitles work fine. The backend is kaffeine-xine. I believe that this is not a xine bug, since the same subtitles work with xine-ui.

The DVB card is Terratec Cinergy DVB-C, a budget class SAA7146 based card.

Versions of involved packages:
kaffeine: 0.8.5-0ubuntu1
kaffeine-xine: 0.8.5-0ubuntu1
libxine1: 1.1.7-1ubuntu1
libxine1-ffmpeg: 1.1.7-1ubuntu1

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?
