Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source

Same kernel, except compiled with thinkpad_acpi as module or compiled-in. Hardware keys work fine, though.
Brightness applet and gnome-power-manager brightness options do not work when thinkpad_acpi is compiled as a module.
However, all works fine when thinkpad_acpi is compiled into the kernel.

This is on a Thinkpad T40p

Kernel version: 2.6.22-14
Suspend2 patches applied, but patches don't affect thinkpad_acpi files.
Generic kernel's brightness doesn't work properly either, but I have not compiled the generic kernel with thinkpad_acpi built-in. I would assume it's the same.

I'm not on the box at the moment, but I can tell you that thinkpad_acpi IS loaded, because all hotkeys work. They don't work if the module isn't loaded, such as when before I had to manually load it after recompiling thinkpad_acpi as a module (I wanted to try out experimental=1)

Brightness hotkeys work as well, after thinkpad_acpi was loaded. But the applet doesn't work, and there's no gnome osd.
Volume works, though, OSD and all. Which is what puzzles me.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? If so, please reopen the bug. Thanks in advance.
