installer for hplip 3.19.5 fails on Fedora 29

I have an m254dw which works fine under Windows 10, but not on Fedora 29. Fedora provides hplip version 3.18.12, which when using the recommended Postscript driver ought to work but does not (printing images gets a postscript error, and attempting to print text in duplex mode prints only the first page). To try and fix this I want to try the newest available version, but the installer doesn't work. It prompts for the root/superuser password, but then proceeds to use sudo (which would presumably need *my* password). Because of this, all the commands executed via sudo fail and the installation will not complete.

4. A detailed explanation of your problem.

The real problem is that I can't get the M254dw printer to work. Installed "Driverless", the photos print but the duplex system is not available. Using the default Postscript driver, the photos generate Postscript error and attempting to print duplex prints only the first page (front side only)

I am not even sure that installing 3.19.5 version will fix the issues, but I wanted to try it before I give up and return this printer to Amazon and post a review letting people know that it doesn't work in Linux (which makes it useless to me unless I can fix the issues I am having with it)

For the installer problem: download the hplip-3.19.5 driver from HP. Run "sh hplip-3.19.5.run" and note that it prompts for the root/superuser password, and all commands executed via sudo subsequently fail.

The hp-doctor script does not exist on my system.
