Ubuntu Kernel Bot (ubuntu-kernel-bot) wrote : Missing required logs.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. While running an Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline or third-party kernel) please enter the following command in a terminal window:

apport-collect 1831301

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

OP had also tested this with linux-image-generic-hwe-18.04 / linux-image-4.18.0-20-generic, where dmesg looked very similar to that of this hwe-18.04-edge kernel.

Gabriele:

(1) Please do as discussed in comment 2.

(2) Please also re-run alsa-info as discussed at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo and attach the output as a file to this bug report.

(3) These commands (3 lines total) would create an ALSA profile for your hardware, and may provide audio after rebooting:

sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/alsa/ucm/bytcr-rt5651 && \
wget -qO- 'https://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-lib.git;a=blob_plain;f=src/conf/ucm/bytcr-rt5651/bytcr-rt5651.conf' | sudo tee /usr/share/alsa/ucm/bytcr-rt5651/bytcr-rt5651.conf >/dev/null && \
wget -qO- https://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-lib.git;a=blob_plain;f=src/conf/ucm/bytcr-rt5651/HiFi.conf | sudo tee /usr/share/alsa/ucm/bytcr-rt5651/HiFi.conf >/dev/null

To undo these changes, please run this command:
sudo rm -r /usr/share/alsa/ucm/bytcr-rt5651

Please report back whether this helped. If so, please repeat (1) and (2).

lspci -nnvv > /tmp/lspci.txt
lsmod > /tmp/lsmod.txt

after running these 3 command line commands, upload all /tmp/*.txt

Looks like it is the I2S codoc on your machine. First let us check if your sound card is registered successfully.

please run:

aplay -l > /tmp/aplay-l.txt
aplay -L > /tmp/aplay-L.txt
arecord -l > /tmp/arecord-l.txt
arecord -L > /tmp/arecord-L.txt

Then upload them.

thx.

According to #13 ~ #16, your sound card is registered successfully. But ubuntu 18.04 doesn't support ucm conf for this sound card yet, as a result the pulseaudio and gnome layer doesn't find your sound card.

If you want to have a try, please follow these steps:
cd /tmp/
git clone git://git.alsa-project.org/alsa-lib.git
sudo mv /usr/share/alsa/ucm /usr/share/alsa/ucm-ori
sudo cp -rf alsa-lib/src/conf/ucm /usr/share/alsa/
reboot
check if audio works under gnome

To restore original ucm:
sudo mv /usr/share/alsa/ucm /usr/share/alsa/ucm-latest
sudo mv /usr/share/alsa/ucm-ori /usr/share/alsa/ucm
reboot
