Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420N with a laptop display of 1280x800. This works fine.

When I plug into it a Samsung SyncMaster 225BW, which has a screen resolution up to 1680x1050, this is also recognised fine. Well, I mean that if I boot up with this screen plugged in, the resolution is found correctly.

However, if I open a window and then maximise it, it only seems to be using the original 1280x800 resolution. I can manually drag the window to a larger size, and if I then click then maximise button it will maximise to the full 1680x1050. When I am prompted for my password from a GUI application, only 1280x800 of the screen darkens, and in compiz, if I zoom in on my desktop, only 1280x800 zooms (or rather, the screen is considered two sections, and depending if I'm in the top left 1280x800 or not, that will zoom, or the section outside of it will zoom).

Have confirmed that this works as expected with desktop effects turned off, so re-assigning to compiz.
