You should use debdiff instead of upload the .dsc and .diff.gz.

$ debdiff old_package.dsc new_package.dsc > output_package.debdiff

Marco, its an upstream version. Debdiffs are not exactly the best thing to use when a new upstream version needs to be sponsored. What Pedro has done is correct.
