wish: hide useless payee/category to lighten autocomplete/lists

In a situation where you have several accounts dating back several years, and in those old accounts you have some payees that you are no longer doing business with or were a one-time payment, I would like to have the ability to only show in the list of payees the ones that have been used in the current account that you are working in. Or, when adding a transaction, to only show payees from open accounts. My list of payees is growing quite long but many of them are no longer relevant for adding transactions to currently open accounts. So it would be like linking payees to one or more accounts.

You could just start a new file, after all you use a personal finance tool to track your business, and payee for personal usage do not vary that much.

The payee is like Categories, is it global to the HomeBank file, so just forget about me making a relation between Account and Payee, which by the way make no sens (for what Hb is supposed to be used).

Anyway, introduce a Payee/Category obsolescence worth a thought, something like and archived status that lead to:
- they are no more displayed in the autocomplete or list
- but still valid if you enter it

Still to decide if that flagging should be manual or quite automated.

Anyone else opinion on this ?

if we could change the payee order and have the most used ones at the top. Custom order or even sorting them by usage would work.

In the payees' list, just the ability to tick a payee as inactive, so that it disappears from all autocompletes and does not appear in lists. Of course all transactions and everything else remains. Basically it's just to clear up the list when selecting a payee for a transaction.

In the list of payees (in the manage payees window), just list all active payee on top and list all inactive payees on the bottom.

I support this approach too. Allows historical entries to remain, whilst having some control over the size of the payee list.
Same can apply to categories/subcategories.
Effectively this is the same as ticking "account is closed" for accounts.

To be able to show payees as being inactive would be great like others have said in the thread, it would be good for those payees that are no longer trading or I used once and never again to mark as inactive so they don't show up on drop down lists, and then to have the ability in the 'Manage payee' screen to choose to show either all or just active payees would be really helpful.
