Please use a workaround first:

edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
add "blacklist i2c_i801" in the blacklist.conf
sudo update-initramfs -u

reboot

Can you remove i2c_i801 from backlist and test if this kernel helps?

According to the error of dmesg, this bug should be a duplicate of #1825699 (about ThinkPad L580), if we can't fix it to make it have reliable i2c transfer, we might add this touchpad to i2c_blacklist_pnp_ids. But it is weird that we have a ThinkPad L480 in the Beijing office, which doens't have any touchpad issues after installing the ubuntu 19.04.

Need more investigation. I changed the bug title in order to let other L480 users report the bug if they also have touchpad issues after installing 19.04.
