In the version 3.7.0-1build1 (amd64) of kid3-qt the file
  /usr/share/applications/kid3-qt.desktop
is missing

Thanks for reporting.

As commented in the corresponding Debian report, the missing desktop file has been reintroduced. Just checked and it works as expected in Ubuntu Eoan (https://packages.ubuntu.com/eoan/amd64/kid3-qt/filelist).
