ESS (http://ess.r-project.org/) version 5.3.6 is available. Ubuntu package havn't updated since edgy.

It seems nobody is actively maintaining this package in Debian/Ubuntu. Yang Zhao, are you willing to help maintaining it in Ubuntu?

ESS is now again actively maintained in Debian; I am part of the maintainer group. We'd be happy for someone from Ubuntu to join. Just email us.

ess is version 5.4 in the ubuntu repository now (which is the newest ess version).
