Thank you for your bug report, could you give some details on the type of installation/partitionning you did?

Hi Sebastien,

This is a new Acer AMD A10-based machine with Win 10 on it. Win
already had four primary partitions on a 1 TB drive. To make it
dual-boot, I shrunk the main partition to 200 GB, then using fdisk in
the live install DVD created a 1 GB part for /boot and the rest of the
disk for LVM. From an xterm in the live install disk, I used the LVM
tools to create LVs for root (16 GB), swap (20 GB), home (10 GB), var
(1 GB), and ulocal (for /usr/local, 1 GB). Then I proceeded with the
normal install.

Later I retried the install without updated packages and it reported
it failed to format the swap LV, gave me an "OK" button which did
nothing. Had to use the power switch to get out of that.

FWIW, I have downloaded and burned to DVD the 18.04.2 desktop distro
and will try to install with it today.

I'd try testing the latest point release of Ubuntu 18.04 instead of the image that you used. You can find the latest 18.04 iso here:

Hi Brian,

I'm a little ahead of you. I got 18.04.2 and installed successfully.
Now I have to figure out how to get Ubuntu as a boot option,
preferably as a default. This is on an Acer Aspire TC-281 desktop.

* Brian groans * (Right?)

All the search I've done has led to dead ends. Currently looking at
this:

https://www.lifewire.com/change-the-efi-boot-order-efibootmgr-4028027

It involves booting the live DVD and installing efibootmgr, and using
it to fix things. Turns out the 18.04.2 distro already has
efibootmgr. Followed the instructions, rebooted, no options, still
boots !@#$~ Win 10.

Any ideas?
