Bug Description

Binary package hint: mediawiki

apt-cache policy mediawiki1.10
mediawiki1.10:
  Installed: 1.10.2-1
  Candidate: 1.10.2-1
  Version table:

lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 7.10
Release: 7.10
Codename: gutsy

After installing mediawiki and browsing to the wikis home, you are given a configuration screen. After clicking 'save settings' (or similar) it generates a LocalSettings.php. This could be improved in two ways:

1) The installer says: "Move the config/LocalSettings.php file to /etc/mediawiki1.10/LocalSettings.php", but doesn't tell you where to find "config/LocalSettings.php". it would be nice if it could say "Move the file /var/lib/mediawiki/config/LocalSettings.php to /etc/mediawiki1.10/LocalSettings.php"

2) Regarding the copying above, its important to have the file permissions preserved for the next order (ensure the file is 640) to be valid (or the wiki wont start).
specifying "when copying, please use `cp -a`" would be a great help.

Or, i suppose, telling people to chmod 644. the problem with that is easy viewing of the database password and other potentially not-safe issues.

The version in jaunty now says:
Installation successful! Move /var/lib/mediawiki/config/LocalSettings.php to /etc/mediawiki, then follow this link to your wiki.
You should change file permissions for LocalSettings.php as required to prevent other users on the server reading passwords and altering configuration data.

So this has been fixed.
