Please:

1. Run 'apport-collect 1817335' to send us more information about the machine.

2. Try uninstalling ALL gnome-shell extensions you have added, reboot and tell us if the problem persists.

1.) done
2.) uninstalled all gnome-shell*
dpkg -l |grep gnome-shell
ii gnome-shell 3.31.90-1ubuntu1 amd64 graphical shell for the GNOME desktop
ii gnome-shell-common 3.31.90-1ubuntu1 all common files for the GNOME graphical shell
ii yaru-theme-gnome-shell

Problem persists.
Using X: ctrl+alt+F* possible for restarting gdm in tty
Using wayland: no keyboard input at all, hard reboot or ssh

Same behavior on
* i5-8350U Laptop
* i7-6700K Desktop

Thanks. Though #1 didn't work for some reason... Could you perhaps please log the bug again by running this command:

  ubuntu-bug gnome-shell

And then we can just make this a duplicate of that.

The reason is that we still don't have any system details, which should have been uploaded by 'apport-collect'.

Thanks. That shows you still have some extensions installed (locally?):

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', 'desktop-icons@csoriano']"

Please remove those and then tell us if the problem persists.

I reinstalled them after the first (unsuccessful) apport-collect. I will re-uninstall them ;)

I'm pretty sure, that there is *really* no extension any more:

* uninstalled all shell extensions (browser interface, command line, even gnome-shell-extensions)
* cleared $HOME/.cache
* deleted $HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
however
"apport-collect" and "gsettings get org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions" still showed enabled extensions
after
"gsettings set org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions []"
no more enabled extensions.

After reboot, freeze still persists under X and wayland.
