Bug Description

Upstream bug:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/issues/576

Currently, in the search view results, there is no way to tell whether an app is a snap or deb without opening the detailed view for the app. This can be especially helpful, when the same app is found in multiple sources.

See the attached screenshot when searching for 'telegram desktop'. (Note that I have the flatpak plugin installed and added the Flathub repository.) Only the flatpak shows its source, the deb and snap do not.

So it seems that gnome-software 3.28 core already supports showing the source field in the overview (see the upstream bug and the attached screenshot), and it's up to the deb and snap plugins to expose it, like the rpm and flatpak plugins do.

Upstream closed the request with that comment

'If I understand correctly this issue is deprecated. Starting with gnome-software 3.32.0 there is dedicated handling for applications available in multiple sources (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/blob/master/NEWS#L47). In fact, the source field is not even shown anymore in search view.'

Changed in gnome-software (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Won't Fix

It would be great to have the "old" source field work in Bionic for snaps and debs though. It's already shown for flatpaks in Bionic. The same fix could be applied for snaps and debs in gnome-software 3.28 in Bionic. See the attached screenshot for clarification on the telegram app.

summary: - Show the source field in overview for snaps and debs
+ Show the source field in overview for snaps and debs in Bionic gnome-
+ software 3.28
Changed in gnome-software:
status: Unknown → Fix Released
