Bug Description

budgie-welcome is a classic snap. It is not visible in the UB menu to be run.

You can run it via snap run budgie-welcome.

I also install the gnome-calculator snap - again it was not visible in the live session.

This is on real hardware - laptop boots via EFI

The odd thing is that I then booted the same ISO via a virtualbox VM live (both EFI and legacy boot) session and both gnome-calculator and budgie-welcome was visible in the UB menu.

After following the entire disk QA scenario - on a full real install, budgie-welcome and an install of gnome-calculator are available via the menu.

So this is a live session on real hardware issue.

It's weird that vm/real machine would make a difference, maybe it's a timing issue (.desktop created by snapd later than the desktop UI loads and the UI doesn't refresh?)

It is odd I fully agree with you.

Odder still was the observation that installing a snap like gnome-calculator would not appear in the menu for a live session ... but if it is a full installation then it will appear

I played around with the default 18.04.3 live CD, and desktop snap are properly listed in the live session. Note that the default image is using Gnome, so perhaps Budgie desktop is missing something?

Note that XDG_DATA_DIRS pointing to /var/lib/snapd/desktop is injected into the environment. If budgie spin is using a different shell than bash, then there's a known problem since zsh does not load /etc/profile.d

Budgie is using the same shell as GNOME-Shell i.e. Bash
