Bug Description
There is a serious usability issue in hardy with rt73usb devices..
In order for these devices to work properly, firmware files from http://
Restricted driver manager should inform the user that he needs these files in /lib/firmware and possibly download and install them.
The user may have to unplug and put back in the usb device afterwards or reboot to complete installation.
This may also apply to gutsy but I have not tested that.

Amazing, you are right!
I had just noticed that with kernel 2.6.24-3 the rt73usb driver finally started working. It turns out that I saw this bug report and noticed that I had installed /lib/firmware/ rt73.bin, when I tried the ralink driver (which does not even compile with recent kernel headers, BTW). Moving the firmware file away made the driver stop working. Moving it back made it work again.
=> Confirmed!
