Xorg crash of a sort

Problem started after last upgrade. Usually happens when I attempt to end the screen saver and start processing again. I see a solid screen with icon bar on the left and the power off button on the upper right but nothing else. The mouse still appears and works but nothing happens on the screen if I click on an application on the left. The power off button works and shuts down the PC. when I reboot everything picks up where I left off.
