Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

The selected text in thunderbird search box isn't replaced when you are typing.

type something in your search box:

/something

then double click in the text "something" so it is selected.

Now... when you start typing what do you expect? Indeed your newly typed text will replace the selected text. In thunderbird it will append it which is odd.

Thank you for your bug report and taking time to help make ubuntu better.
I can't confirm this bug, in my thunderbird (2.0.0.6) this doesn't happen.
Please, could you tell us which thunderbird and ubuntu versions are you using, and detailed steps to reproduce this bug?

I'll leave this bug as incomplete, maybe someone from Mozilla Bugs team want to check it out.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

version 2.0.0.16 (20080724) and still the same.

I have to clarify my report. More of a usability annoyance I would say.

in a 2.0.0.9 I had an add-on GMailUI so that when I typed / I ended up directly in the search box in the top right corner.

Ok select an email in the email list (not in the preview)

So type / or [ctrl]-k to end up in the search box. Type something. hit enter. (notice the text keeps being selected which is strange too.) Now after you have a result or not do the above again...
1) As the text is still being selected you expect the focus is still there so you start typing.... does not work
2) [ctrl]-k gets the real focus back and start typing... the text is added after your last search.

Result: You ALWAYS have to first click the [X] or hit [Delete] which is annoying.

I am unable to reproduce this bug. If it is a problem with an add-on/extension, then I don't think this is the place to file the bug report. I will leave the bug as incomplete, perhaps somebody else will be able to confirm it. If we determine that it is a problem simply with a third party extension, we can close the bug report. Thank you.
