Bug Description

New Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 4.15.0-42-generic x86_64) installation
dist-upgraded as of Fri Dec 7 17:49:07 GMT 2018
running Dell R440 with Dell Boss card as boot drive

nano /etc/default/grub
->GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="intel_iommu=on"

update-grub
reboot

Error on boot:

gave up waiting for root file system
missing modules
Alert UUID=xxxx does not exist dropping to shell
