Can you please try downgrading to a supported version of the nvidia driver:

and tell us if the problem still happens?

Actually the best thing to try first is to remove all gnome-shell extensions. You have a few:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>']"

I had tried removing everything gnome-related, including the gnome extensions, but it didn't help.

The bug solved with System76 engineers patching their system76-driver.

Thanks. If the fix is in 'system76-driver' then I don't think there's any way for us to track that because it's not an official Ubuntu package.

affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) → ubuntu
