Something keeps triggering the login prompt

Bug Description

Something keeps triggering the login, as if the mouse is moved or keyboard pressed. This results in screens never going into standby, and the login prompt always being up, so screensaver animations mostly don't continue.

This has persisted across multiple Ubuntu versions and upgrades, and does not appear to stop when USB devices are unplugged.

Ubuntu 18.10 currently

Latest version from main repos

I expect it to stop prompting for login and play the screensaver animations, and eventually put the monitors into standby.

You're saying Ubuntu but you're using the XFCE desktop? Are you actually using Xubuntu? In any case, we'd need to have some understanding on how you have things set up so we can figure out what's controlling power management.

Perhaps attach your $HOME/.xscreensaver as a start, too.

Original install was Ubuntu (3-4 years ago?), along the way I installed the XFCE meta package (forget if it was the xubuntu meta or what), and switched the DE to XFCE, but the core is base Ubuntu. That's why I use that nomenclature.

This is a desktop, so no laptopy stuff here. Last I checked xscreensaver was doing the management for power, as in, turning the displays off after X time. But I'm open to checking other things if you have an idea where to start! :)

Here's my current "$HOME/.xscreensaver":

Um, this issue still persists...

Can we PLEASE not have bugs expire because of no activity from devs? That's uncool.

I'm not sure that we can call this confirmed at least in how it's defined ("verified by someone other than the reporter"). What we need are clear steps to reproduce that. Without that, it's unclear how to fix it. It could, for example, be a hardware issue of some kind.
