Bug Description

After manually selecting partitions for installation, the overview summary window is so tall that only the top of the buttons "Back", "Install", and "Cancel" are visible.
I had to click on the window's Maximize button to see the whole button.
(I think I remember a later window having the same problem. but am not sure...)

Monitor Settings shows that the screen resolution defaulted to 1024 x 768 @ 84.9967 Hz.
for this old-style CRT display, which according to the app, is capable of 1600 x 1200 max.
(It is actually capable of higher, with the nvidia-304 driver, which I am no longer able
to install. My LubuntuN 17.10 uses some weird height of something like 1377...)

I realize my previous message is a bit obtuse, if not completely incomprehensible. The question is that you seem to have a 1024x768 window which is larger than the 1024x712 minimum I found. So can you confirm that it indeed does not work with 1024x768 on a fresh boot of the live CD? If so, I'm really going to be surprised.

(...sorry...)

I just booted up the live-USB for another purpose (prepping a new SSD to be used in a new computer, once I have them put it together) and ran the installer (only as far as the problem window), and it still almost doesn't show the buttons.

I will attach screenshots of the window and the monitor settings window.

-----

[NB: I was booting "with persistence", which as we know (?) has bitten me before on bug reports.
I will try it again soon without persistence, and report if there is/is not any difference.]

What about the persistence thing?

Oops! Sorry!

I think I actually did check this, but somehow never reported...

In any event, I have just tried it again. NO persistence, on new computer.

Same result: I actually did a screenshot (which looked just as the previous did)
but of course, without persistence, I could not save it on the USB. Although I
mounted my data partition and saved it to there as well, I cannot locate it, for
some reason... I either messed up the name, or ...

Same USB of Lubuntu 18.10 release.

At the VERY least, I plan to make the first install of this new computer be L19.04,
and will test it then.
If there is something you want me to test before then, I'll do it (and probably re-visit
previous install- and PCManFM-related weirdnesses at the same time)

So looking at the log I find:

2018-11-01 - 20:46:18 [6]: Available size QSize(1024, 736)
2018-11-01 - 20:46:18 [6]: Proposed window size: 1024 612

So it's odd that you were having issues.

Or so I thought until I looked at your image and that ridiculous partitioning scheme ☺ As there was a bug concerning the expansion of the summary window:

https://github.com/calamares/calamares/issues/1062

This was fixed in 3.2.4, but we didn't get that until a few days after your last comment:

calamares (3.2.4-0ubuntu1) disco; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * Update copyright file.
  * Bump Standards-version to 4.3.0, no changes needed.
  * Remove patches applied for XDG directories that is no longer needed.
  * Remove trailing whitespace in rules.
  * Update lintian-overrides.
  * Run wrap-and-sort.

The other thing I'll mention is that with it came the ability to maximize the window by default. This is most likely what we're going to be going with in 19.10.
