Bug Description

Mono cannot be installed because the version provided (1.2.5.1-2ubuntu1) requires mono-common and mono-jit to be of the same version, but mono-common and mono-jit have been upgraded to 1.2.6+dfsg-1ubuntu1. Command line output of sudo apt-get install mono shown below.

hyperair@Hyperair-PC:~$ sudo apt-get install mono

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
mono: Depends: mono-common (= 1.2.5.1-2ubuntu1) but 1.2.6+dfsg-1ubuntu1 is to be installed
Depends: mono-jit (= 1.2.5.1-2ubuntu1) but 1.2.6+dfsg-1ubuntu1 is to be installed

The last mono merge from Debian removed the mono meta package:

The other mono package are installable (and you can remove the mono package if you want).

For anyone who comes across this through a search, the issue is still present, but can be avoided by just installing mono-common and mono-jit packages individually as mono was just a meta package (i.e. does nothing outside packaging). Maybe this is what Michael meant, but I didn't understand what he said, particularly with the plural/singular mix up.

This seems to no longer be an issue since the meta package "mono" no longer exists in Hardy. However, I don't know if this would cause an issue for updates.

Non issue now.

Will, that's not a problem because mono depended on mono-common and mono-jit which are now updated individually instead.
