Bug Description

I was selecting apps to install in the Software Boutique, then suddenly the Boutique Window displayed the welcome window and lost all the apps I queued for installation.

Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (just reinstalled when Ubuntu MATE 18.10 went into total meltdown).
AMD 64-bit prosessor

Menu->Administration->Software Boutique

I had actually hoped to install the same software I had installed when I first installed 18.04.

All work lost.

The code quality is definitely going down hill fast. (even ubuntu-bug -w gets an error message
robert@A88XM-A:~/Desktop$ ubuntu-bug -w
Gtk-Message: 20:41:01.726: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.).

GNOME Software might be the wrong package, the MATE Software Boutique is a different app. A quick search suggests that it might be part of the MATE welcome center, but a look into the package couldn't confirm that.

Dear Matthias Klumpp,
The Software Boutique is in Menu->Administration->Software Boutique. In Ubuntu MATE 18.10 it crashes!

I do not appreciate having the status of my bug report changed to "Invalid". I may not be a Linux guru, but I have been developing programs for over 35 years and a Mentor for 20 years. I can tell when a program crashes! "Fixing" a bug by declaring all reports of it "Invalid" is not programming - it is bad management! Try getting some ubuntu!

Robert, please note Martin marked the bug report invalid for "gnome-software" which is correct as GNOME Software is the wrong package. "ubuntu-mate-welcome" is the one at fault.

Also note that the "Gtk-Message error" (and poor code quality) you described for ubuntu-bug is just a GTK warning for the developer of that application, it is not an error.

This bug report does not contain any valuable details of the crash to address what happened. Software Boutique does not retain the queue across sessions, and there is no stacktrace nor can it be reproduced for further inspection.

Please elaborate on this:

What are the steps to reproduce the same crash you experienced?

Dear Luke,

After reinstalling Ubuntu MATE 18.04 I needed to reinstall the apps I use from the Software Boutique.

I selected Menu->Administration->Software Boutique.

The Software Boutique opened. I then selected each category tab and clicked the "Install" button for each of the apps I use. There are approximately 27 apps I use.

During this process suddenly the Boutique Window displayed the welcome window and lost all the apps I queued for installation.

I was only using the app. I am not a Linux guru (yet). I was not debugging the app. Obviously something is wrong in the source code for the app to show this behaviour. I am only reporting the bug so that the developers can have all the information I possess in order to fix their code.

I believe that comments should be focused on the app and its behaviour.

ok. Lets try this. start software boutique from the terminal and give us all the output when trying to replicate the problem. (open terminal and type ubuntu-mate-welcome --boutique)

APolihron,
Thank you for telling me what to try and, more importantly how to do it! I admit I am a Linux newbie.

I got the following:
robert@A88XM-A:~/Desktop$ ubuntu-mate-welcome --boutique
[Welcome] Starting in Software Boutique mode.
[Welcome] Snap detected. Using __VERSION__
[Welcome] Version: 17.10.26
[Welcome] Application Ready.

Since the time of the original report, I have had to reinstall Ubuntu MATE 18.04 for the third time in the last week. After re-installation, the Boutique seems to be working as expected. I even got the Software app to install and work.

I think the initial crash might have been the result of trying to select too many apps for installation. But without a dump or the ability to repeat the failure, I do not see any resolution other than ask the developer to check the code for adding an app to the queue and closing this bug report.

Thanks. I will try to see if there is a problem when adding 20 apps in queue. I will mark this invalid and if it's needed i will open another one.
Have a great day/night.
