Bug Description
When I start my linux "ubuntu v7.10 alternate command prompt" boot and grub just started I get "Memory detection failure assuming 16Mbyte". It continues, but does not use all my ram. The "free" command reads:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 450816 445184 5632 0 2088 403704
Low: 450816 445184 5632
High: 0 0 0
-/+ buffers/cache: 39392 411424
Swap: 393552 34692 358860
Total: 844368 479876 364492
If I instead run memtest+ (from grub) it detects all ram memory (480Mbyte). It also passes all tests. I have tried to add to the kernel line of grub "mem=exactmap mem=640k@0 mem=479M@1M". This does not work. It hangs the machine. Everything seems to work except finding all RAM memory. (i.e. The vsftpd-server works.)
Any update on this bug?
