Bug Description

Binary package hint: ntfs-3g

Ubuntu should hide NTFS system files by default, and allow to configure it to show them. The same for hidden files. It should consider not only ".file" to hide or show, but also the flag of hidden files on a NTFS partition.

This doesn't seem to be easy to implement thought, but this should be somehow done

Well, it appears that there is no standard interface in linux to query 'hidden' attribute.
(in fact there is - in unix world all hidden files start with '.')

Meanwhile, a solution would be ability to manually hide files.
How about simple config file/gconf entries to say which files to hide, and nautilus extension?

You can use the option hide_hid_files with a recent ntfs-3g version.

Unix knows nothing about these windows filesystem specific flags. Artificially adding a dot to the name will have unintended consequences, such as breaking scripts or causing the name to *really* have a dot prefix if you copy the file.

Then you flat out would not be able to see hidden files, and we don't
want that.
