18.10 update: keyboard backlight stopped working

Bug Description
I've updated to the Ubuntu 18.10 beta release. Since then my keyboard backlight stopped working. The function keys still display the keyboard backlight brightness control icon on screen, but it doesn't change.
I'm using kernel 4.18.0-10-generic.
