Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-report-builder

Reproduce:

1. Open the program Open Office Database. (Make sure you have installed the Report builder also!)
2. Click the Report icon to select reports section
3. Click Insert / Report... (OpenOffice.org Base Report form opens)
4. Click Format / Page... (Page Setup opens)
5. In the check boxes for Margins there will show some default values ( e.g. 2 cm )
6. Change the value in the "Left" check box, e.g. "1 cm" and press Tab (the value changes to 1 cm and the cursor jumps to "Right" checkbox). Continue changing the values to "1 cm" for all four fields and then press "OK".
7. Notice that the Save option (the icon) does not go active (you can not save the new values). Also notice that the margins did not change. Verify that the new margin values did not save by re-opening the Page Setup session. You will find that the "default" values "2 cm" has populated all four fields.

The problem seems to be related only to the two first check boxes ("Left" and "Right"). It is possible to change the "Top" and "Bottom" check boxes by first entering a new value into "Bottom" or "Top" check box. Those new values saves if you do not "touch" the "Left" and "Right" check boxes.

System data:
Ubuntu 7.10 (64bit-version), Open Office 2.3.0 database (Sun-Report-Builder_0.oxt version 1.0.1 downloaded from Synaptic Package Manager). The system is totally new, clean Ubuntu (no MS Windows etc), 64 bit Intel (E6750 Core 2 Duo).

In order to verify the bug, I installed exactly the same program but in 32bit-version on a second computer (Athlon XP 2200+). Also this time I downloaded the Sun-Report-Builder from Synaptic Package Manager). In 32bit-version the bug does not exist. (I have created some reports also in Windows XP and the Report builder works fine also there).

The problem seems to be related to 64bit systems.

Do you still have this problem on Ubuntu hardy openoffice.org 1:2.4.0~rc2-1ubuntu3?

The problem is still there.

I also noticed that if you update "Left" or "Right" margins, for example by adding 5 cm, the value is sometimes recalculated to 18,50 cm (see attached picture, #3)

It is however still not possible to save new values to the two fields.

Hello Chris,

I have updated ticket 179220.

My system is updated to Hardy (8.04) and open office is installed, also
the report builder. But the problem is not solved.

I run some tests on both new databases and also on "old" ones, exactly
the same problem unfortunately.

Looks like the report builder in 3.x works differently than explained. No worth to fix it in 2.4.1 I think.

Problem is still the same after installation of Ubuntu 8.10 + Open Office version 3.0 + Report Builder 1.05.
Old database files + new database files create and same problem in both of them.

I have now installed version 9.04 and Report Builder 1.05 (and 1.06?) but the error is still the same.
It is possible to change data in margin cell for Top and Bottom but not for Left and Right (see attachment-Page Setup-Margins). I have attached also a screendump for extensions (Extensions).

So you aren't using the Report Builder that is part of Ubuntu but the one from the openoffice.org website and are opening bugs about it here in Ubuntu... ?

This still happens in EXACTLY the same manner in OOo 3.0.1 with ooo-build. I am not sure what you meant about it being different closing the bug.

Well I see it also doesn't work right for ooo-build so regardless of where you got the 1.0.6 version the ooo-build version is also screwed up.

Well this is the story:
I tried to follow your instructions from 24 Jan and also became an ubuntero etc. Worked with this for some time but I could not see any differences, problem still the same. I awaited the next version 9.04 and installed it. From Synaptic I installed Sun Report Builder 1.05. Made a brand new database for the test purposes. The SRP 1.05 crashes the database every time you close the report and asks for recovery.
I checked for extension updates (show all updates, see attached image Extensions 2) and found the 1.06 version of the Report Builder but had problems to install from Synaptic. Downloaded this 1.06 version directly from the Sun homepage and installed from there. Could not remove 1.05 so both 1.05 and 1.06 were visible in the extension manager display.

If this place is not the correct forum for reporting this kind of bug, please advice how to / where to report. I'm happy to contribute with some bug testing.

Thanks,
Sören

When I tested it on 3.0.1 it only happened on the ooo-build version. I don't have upstream OOo 3.1.1 installed at the moment to see if it is broken now though.

I see it in the upstream OOo-3.1.1 version as well. I do not see any change when I change the margins. Also, the values are back to 2cm when I open "Format/Page" dialog again.

Chris could you please, report it upstream?

There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
