However, when opening it for the first time on a Mac running current OS versions (macOS 10.13.x High Sierra), you are presented with a system-level warning:
"Inkscape is not optimized for your Mac.
This app needs to be updated by its developer to improve compatibility."
The "Learn More..." button in the dialog box links to the following tech note, which indicates that the current Inkscape build is "32-bit," so far as the system can tell:

Apple has stated that this fall's macOS release (10.14 Mohave) will be the last to support 32-bit apps, and that the following release -- likely fall 2019 -- will not support 32-bit apps.

I am aware that this has crossed the radar of the Inkscape developers before, and that there are few Mac people amongst the Inkscape core developers, but I was not able to find another bug report listing it.
While this is not necessarily critical to address at the present moment, it could (if not addressed) eventually make it so that Inkscape does not run on Macs: https:/
