Bug Description

The latest available build for Mac as of this writing (Inkscape-0.92.2-1-x11-10.7-x86_64.dmg) appears on the surface ("x86_64") to be a 64-bit application.

However, when opening it for the first time on a Mac running current OS versions (macOS 10.13.x High Sierra), you are presented with a system-level warning:

"Inkscape is not optimized for your Mac.
This app needs to be updated by its developer to improve compatibility."

The "Learn More..." button in the dialog box links to the following tech note, which indicates that the current Inkscape build is "32-bit," so far as the system can tell:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208436

Apple has stated that this fall's macOS release (10.14 Mohave) will be the last to support 32-bit apps, and that the following release -- likely fall 2019 -- will not support 32-bit apps.
(Source: https://www.computerworld.com/article/3269007/apple-mac/what-apples-32-bit-app-phase-out-on-mojave-means-to-you.html )

I am aware that this has crossed the radar of the Inkscape developers before, and that there are few Mac people amongst the Inkscape core developers, but I was not able to find another bug report listing it.

While this is not necessarily critical to address at the present moment, it could (if not addressed) eventually make it so that Inkscape does not run on Macs: https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/670236

This will be fixed as part of the 'native' Mac application works. Please refer to https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/issues/84 for further progress on this issue. Thank you!

I'll note that current builds of Inkscape 1.0 (alpha) for Mac are no longer showing this issue.

URGENT!!!

Hi I am writing this in may 2019 and this is still clearly an issue. The latest version of inkscape will still not be compatible with mac computers potentially within 3 months time. Is anything going to change in next few weeks?

Alpha versions of Inkscape 1.0 for Mac are already available to download, and no longer exhibit this issue.

It is likely that Inkscape 1.0 will be available as a beta version by the time of the next MacOS release.

I do not know if the new build system will at all be backported to the 0.9x series.
